Report on a Cocoa Sustainability Fund

The recommendation to study the feasibility of establishing a cocoa-dedicated sustainability fund was first mooted at the Second Roundtable on a Sustainable Cocoa Economy (RSCE2) in Trinidad and Tobago in 2009. The declared objective was to provide additional direct and timely financing to relevant projects and programmes in the cocoa sector, primarily for the benefit of cocoa producers. The second World Cocoa Conference in Amsterdam held in 2014 revived the concept and proposed to conduct a study in order to provide the basis for cocoa experts to have a better informed conversation on the topic. In September 2015, the ICCO Council agreed to commission such a study, to be jointly funded by the ICCO and GISCO. Südwind e.V. was subsequently appointed to conduct it.
